How to Prepare for Your Job Interview Tomorrow

Congratulations on landing a job interview! You're one step closer to finding your dream job. But now comes the hard part: preparing for the actual interview.

Don't worry, we've got you covered. In this Workwise article, we'll go over some tips on how to prepare for your job interview tomorrow.

No Fear The Job Is Clear

Since your interview is coming right up, let’s keep things simple—and memorable. Here’s 3 quick tips for your job interview tomorrow:

  1. Do Your Homework! Before your interview, take some time to review the job description and the company website. This will help you get a better understanding of the company's mission and values, as well as the specific skills and experience they are looking for in a candidate.
  2. Practice Makes Perfect! It's always a good idea to practice common interview questions with a friend or family member. This will help you feel more confident and prepared for the real thing. Some examples of common interview questions include "Tell me about yourself," "Why do you want to work for this company," and "What are your strengths and weaknesses?"
  3. Dress for (Job) Success: First impressions are important, so make sure to dress appropriately for your interview. Research the company's dress code and try to look the part. You want to look professional and put-together, not underdressed or over the top.

One more bonus tip: Know Where to Go! It's always a good idea to map out the route ahead of time and allow extra time for unexpected delays. Arriving at your interview location on time, or even a few minutes early, can help you feel more relaxed and confident for the interview.

It’s your time to shine, so make it count!

Take a Deep Breath

Before you go, it’s worth taking a second to visualize the interview before it happens. Taking a deep breath before your job interview can do wonders for your nerves and overall demeanor.

When we're nervous, our bodies naturally take shallow breaths, which can make us feel even more anxious. By taking a deep breath, you're able to calm your body and mind, and can even help to lower your heart rate.

But it's important to not just stop at one deep breath. Taking a few deep breaths before your interview can help you feel more grounded and present. As you inhale, imagine yourself filling up with calm and confidence. And as you exhale, imagine any nervous energy or tension being released.

It's also a good idea to take a deep breath before answering each question during the interview. This can give you a moment to pause and gather your thoughts, and can also help you come across as more composed and confident.

On the flip side, you can use a quick psychological trick to give yourself more energy and confidence before you walk into the room. Raising your arms in a powerful position before the actual interview in the restroom gives you that boost of confidence because it activates the body's "power posture" response. When we adopt a confident posture, our body releases hormones such as testosterone, which can increase our feelings of power and confidence.

Additionally, adopting a powerful posture can also affect our mindset and how we perceive ourselves. By physically taking up more space and standing tall, we can trick our brain into thinking we are more confident and capable, which can in turn boost our self-confidence.

So next time you're feeling a little nervous or lacking in confidence, try striking a powerful pose for a few minutes before heading into that job interview or presentation. It just might give you that extra little push!
